OpenCarry.org has been pushing for people to go out and vote for Brian Moran in tomorrow's Democratic primary for Virginia governor, not because he's pro-gun, but to punish Creigh Deeds - far and away the most pro-gun of the three Dems running to take on Bob McDonnell in the general election - for flipping from opposing closing the 'gun show loophole' to supporting closing it, though with amendments to weaken the bill that would close it.

I have a hard time believing that Moran could win in a statewide election against McDonnell, since Moran's liberal stances may play well in Northern Virginia, but would likely torpedo his chances in the rest of the state (and NoVa isn't big enough to carry the state with).

Terry McAuliffe has far and away the biggest campaign chest ($$$), but he'd likely be attacked as a 'carpetbagger,' even if he HAS lived in NoVa for over a dozen years.

So, if you follow OpenCarry.org's suggestion and vote for Moran, and he wins the nomination, you might get Moran, who attacked Deeds for being TOO gun-friendly.

OR you get McDonnell, who may agree with you more on guns, but has opposed abortion in all cases but those where the woman's life is in danger (yeah, he even opposes abortion in the cases of rape and incest - at least according to a 2005 WaPo article), and he was involved in getting a judge in Newport News fired for, um, being a lesbian.

Your call.

Photo Spammin', Pt. 1 of...?

It has come to my attention that I haven't posted photos on here in literally over a year. Well, that's gonna change tonight/this morning. Hell, you're probably gonna be sick of seeing my photos well before I even get to the ones I took on my LA trip. Still, for those willing to wade through them, I as always appreciate opinions on what are the best (or worst) and why...

First post: April 25, 2008 visit to The Newseum and a (June 1st) 60th Anniversary Concert for Israel starring the adorable Regina Spektor:

NOTE: From the Newseum is one 9/11-related photographs of mine - one which includes photos of the attack/collapse, so don't proceed if it's too painful.

Tech Support Suggestions? ASAP, please.

agentelrond
Our desktop PC (HP Pavilion) just suddenly ceased to start up. We followed all the suggestions found here ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph06788&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3623529&rule=13629&lang=en#bph06788_section_1 ) under "Power supply light on or flashes," up to #9, where we just said, 'fuck it, we'll pay someone to work on it.'
So, at least as far as the big stores go, which has the best tech support people? Best Buy? CompUSA? Microcenter? Any other suggestions for someone in the NoVa area?

Thanks so much!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Elkor!

jeez, you must be, like, ancient now.

A thought about Heroes

The only really interesting characters are the relatively amoral ones: Angela and Nathan Petrelli, Danko, Sylar...sometimes HRG.

The ones who thinking they're doing the right thing (Hiro, Suresh, Claire) are usually at best dull, at worst infuriating.

Dollhouse Improves...

Okay, the last two eps have been really SOLID. I'm finally getting into it. (One wonders how much sooner that would've happened if Fox hadn't required that the first five eps work pretty much as stand-alones.)
Which just tells me that now it's bound to get cancelled.

I mean, why do these shows do so poorly? Geeks and nerds can't be THAT small a portion of the population, and Lord knows they don't have a social life that would take them outside of the house on a Friday.

so THAT's what those Syke #9 ads are about...

Free NRA Memberships...apparently?

Really worth a watch. The one on the show was maybe 15 minutes. Altogether, this runs about 26.

It seems like Stewart almost considers it his obligation - maybe more than that (crusade?) - to try and be a financial educator. Kudos to Comedy Central for giving him (relatively) free reign. And kudos to Mr. Cramer for being such a good sport.

You've probably seen this video already (Louis CK on Conan), but for those who haven't, it's wonderful in that funny-'cause-it's-true sense:

On a completely different topic, I think this review best encompasses how I felt about the movie Watchmen, with the exception that I thought the actor who played Dreiberg/Nite Owl did a very good job.
